Niton UK’s success in selling the acclaimed Niton alloy analysers has been recognised by the instruments’ US manufacturers, Thermo Scientific. At a ceremony in Salzburg, Austria, the Winchester based company has been presented with an award for generating the highest sales in 2007 for the Niton XLt898™ in the European region.

Accepting the award, Niton UK’s sales and marketing director Michael Sibbald said: “This is a proud moment for us. The award is a tribute for the hard work from all our staff.”

Sales were boosted in particular by strong demand from the metals recycling sector.

The hand-held instruments operate on the principle of x-ray fluorescence, which uses x-rays to excite the atoms in the sample and measures the fluorescent x-rays re-emitted by the material. From this they then rapidly determine the elements present as well as their relative concentrations.

For samples with known ranges of chemical composition, such as common grades of metal alloys, the analysers can quickly identify most sample types by name.
