PR - New detector boosts performance of Niton handheld alloy analysers

Faster testing speeds and dramatically improved analytical performance are provided by a new detector for the Niton XLT3t alloy analysers launched by Niton UK. Measurement times are as much as 10 times quicker than with conventional detectors, while accuracy is up to three times better than conventional silicon PIN detectors.
Another major advance is that the light elements aluminium, silicon, phosphorus and sulphur can be detected without the need for helium or vacuum purging.
The detector uses new geometrically optimised large area drift detector (GOLDD™) technology to deliver laboratory quality performance for these x-ray fluorescence (XRF) instruments.

In scrap metal recycling, it’s easier to sort aluminium, titanium and bronze alloys, as well as achieving superior performance for tramp and trace element analysis,” said Niton UK’s sales and marketing director Michael Sibbald.
Other applications include mining exploration, where the instrument’s low detection limits allow geologists to identify anomalies at or below the averages naturally found in the earth’s crust, something previously not possible with handheld XRF instruments.
The new instrument is also ideal for detecting soil contaminants, or screening toys, electronics and consumer goods for prohibited substances.
All the Niton XL3 series analysers are supplied with Niton Data Transfer (NDT) software, a suite of data management utilities that allows users to customise their instrument, set user permissions, generate custom reports, print certificates of analysis and remotely monitor and operate the instrument from a PC or PDA.
This suite of software is unique and class leading as it sends data in an encrypted format.
Integrated USB and Bluetooth™ communications provide direct data transfer to a PC or networked storage device, eliminating the cumbersome data synchronisation procedures required by PDA-based XRF analysers.
Additionally, users can locate areas of interest on a sample using an integrated colour CCD camera and the optional integrated 3 mm small-spot collimation, and then store the test area image along with the analysis data.
The Niton XL3 series from Niton UK also have the only fully integrated and environmentally sealed tilting colour touch-screen for easy viewing of sample results in any position and under virtually all lighting conditions.
