Lead in Paint

Lead in Paint

Niton analysers facilitate direct surface testing for lead paint, testing for lead in dust wipes from surfaces, testing the lead content of soil in the surrounding area (containment) and the testing of lead content in filters from respirators or volume air samplers for worker/public protection.

Major benefits include:

  • Direct testing for lead paint.
  • No disturbance of surface required.
  • Testing for lead in dust wipes.
  • Lead in soil testing.
  • Filter testing for airbourne lead particles.

Niton analysers use a totally non-destructive and non-invasive technology which means that, unlike chemical testing methods, no disturbance whatsoever of the painted surface being tested is required.

A large number of tests can be performed in a short period without using numerous test kits or waiting for laboratory results.

Lead in Paint

A Niton analyzer can easily and quickly test for lead in paint used in public and other buildings. As this hazard, especially to young children achieves greater publicity and hence awareness, it is hoped that the UK will follow other countries such as the US and France in using Niton instruments to test lead levels and health hazards.

Lead in Dust-Wipe Analysis

Using the optional test stand and sample kit, dust wipes can be taken from areas such as skirting, where dust is likely to accumulate. Those wipes can then be tested on site to establish the presence of more general lead contamination due to flaking or crumbling lead paint.

Lead in Soil Analysis

During a large-scale lead paint clearance operation you may need to establish that activities are not causing lead contamination of the surrounding soil. With the optional soil testing calibration you can either test the soil surface directly or, using the soil sample test stand and soil sample preparation kit.
